AutoTopHat Terms of Service

Effective date: September 19, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of AutoTopHat, including the Chrome extension, the website at autotophat.com, and the companion API.

Contact: jhlam@wisc.edu

1. The service

AutoTopHat is a Chrome extension and backend that can observe live Top Hat lecture questions in your browser and submit a response on your behalf. Free trial solves, monthly subscription, and pay-as-you-go billing are described in the product and in the Privacy Policy.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be able to form a binding contract and must sign in with a Google account. One Google account maps to one Top Hat student id. You are responsible for activity under your account.

3. Your responsibilities (including school rules)

You are solely responsible for how you use AutoTopHat, including whether it complies with your school’s honor code, course syllabus, and Top Hat’s terms. AutoTopHat does not obtain permission from your instructor or institution. If your school or Top Hat forbids this kind of tool, do not use it.

You will not abuse the service (for example by sharing accounts to reset a trial, attacking the API, or using it for anything other than your own lecture participation).

4. Payments

Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Fees are as shown at checkout. You can cancel through the Stripe customer portal. Unused free or bonus solves have no cash value. We may change prices with notice for future periods.

5. Acceptable use of our site and APIs

You may not scrape, overload, or reverse-engineer the service except as allowed by law. You may not use AutoTopHat to violate applicable law.

6. Intellectual property

We own AutoTopHat’s software, name, and site content. Top Hat is a trademark of its owner; we are not affiliated with or endorsed by Top Hat. Lecture questions belong to their authors / your institution.

7. Disclaimer

The service is provided “as is.” Answers may be wrong, skipped, or late. We do not warrant any particular grade, uptime, or that use is permitted by your school. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for academic discipline, lost grades, or indirect damages. Our total liability for a claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim, or $50 if you paid nothing.

8. Termination

You may stop using AutoTopHat and uninstall the extension at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for abuse, non-payment, or legal risk. Surviving sections include 3, 6, 7, and 9.

9. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms; the effective date will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms. Questions: jhlam@wisc.edu.
